In Brazil, education is a right for all. Thus, the Brazilian criminal law determines the obligation of the State to guarantee this right also to people who are deprived of freedom. To implement educational policy and provide compliance with other law principles, in 2009, the Federal Prison System brought educators with top-level training to its staff. Considering the existing rules, the aforementioned professionals formed partnerships with educational institutions so that the right for quality education was guaranteed within Federal Prisons. This article presents an experience report about the work of Educational Assistance developed at the federal prison of Porto Velho, Rondônia, Brazil, where some of the inmates are considered the most dangerous in the country. The aim is to focus on the insertion of Education within a federal prison through partnerships that are being implemented and that are currently reaching several levels of other Brazilian prisons, thus providing gradual social integration of convicts.Key words: Federal Penitentiary; Education in Prisons; Social Reintegration.
