EDUCATION OF ADOLESCENTS DEPRIVED OF FREEDOM: ANALYSIS OF THE SUBJECT IN A SAMPLE OF PERIODICALS

Abstract

This work analyzes the process of education of adolescents deprived of freedom, based on a literature review of a sample of periodicals. The analysis is based on a perspective of Human Rights, and on the theoretical constructs of social and historical Social Psychology. It indicates that the educational model used in the context of deprived freedom is similar to that of regular education offered in schools within the community, which appears to hinder the effective implementation of the right to education for young people with deprived freedom, and of an educational practice that would better take into account the specific context, profile, and objective and concrete reality of the students. In the articles studied, the education of adolescents deprived of freedom is addressed from a perspective of right and obligation/duty. For the adolescents researched, education in the context of deprived freedom is mainly associated with a sense of obligation/duty. The data indicate the existence of contradictions and conflicts between right and obligation, and a fragility of the educational process as a training of the autonomous subject. Problems are also indicated in relation to the training of teachers to work in the context of deprived freedom. It is concluded, based on the data from the literature review, that there is a prevalence of ineffective practices in terms of a human training that is in keeping with the transformation of the concrete reality. Adolescents deprived of freedom tend not to be recognized as subjects with rights. A legalistic view tends to obscure that of the guarantee of the right. This analysis is present in the majority of the articles, some with greater emphasis and others with less, or is seen in the empirical basis of their respective studies, which differ in their theoretical and methodological approaches.
