From a regressive agenda: The Movement for Non-Party School and the Zeitgeist

Abstract

Between 2018 and 2022, Brazil has experienced a government of unprecedented characteristics in its history. For the first time, a candidate who always had a position contrary to democratic principles rose to the presidency of the Republic by popular vote. He had well summarized that position in his statement when he voted, as a federal deputy, for the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff. Alluding to the 1964 business-military coup, he declared that the victory of 1964 repeated that of 2016. Bolsonaro's candidacy and government have an ultraliberal economic agenda associated with a regressive agenda in customs, with an important presence of religious extremism, as premises. In this context, the Movement for Non-Party School (Movimento Escola Sem Partido) finds an important place. This essay presents such Movement in two of its movements, that of locating it in the aforementioned agenda and in the analysis of two of its pillars, anti-enlightenment and sexual repression. The first one is represented by the submission of the school to the family, the second in the acceptance of just traditional family models, as well as in the intolerance for any non- heterosexual body. Everything that diverges from this universe is considered communism, in the first case, and agent of the gender ideology, in the second. In the end, it is argued that these two pillars destroy the possibility of building an autonomous subject, by impeding thinking and interdicting experience.
