It has qualitative approach using the technical procedure of case study and, for data collection, questionnaires and interviews with scholarship students of the Scholarship Program of this educational institution and managers of the Department of Student Policies (SPE). Results show that students of CEFET-MG EPTNM receiving financial support do not attach the receipt of grants academic achievement. According to them, there are two aspects that are important for their stay in this institution: the availability, provided by the financial support, which allows exclusive dedication to studies and the social prestige of the institution that awakens the hope of a promising future, especially concerning the qualification for the world of work. The SPE managers sign the challenges of PAE, particularly those related to the expansion of students' rights and enforcing targets for program management. They also allude to the importance for PAE to no longer be a government policy but a State policy instead.
