The goal of this paper is to analyze the current situation of teacher education programs in Brazil against the so-called hegemony of corporate and market education. Data showing the expansion of higher education in the country, especially via private initiative, will be presented and how it affects these programs. In addition, there is a strong tendency for teacher education in Brazil: made by private for-profit institutions, called “university-enterprise”, in evening courses, and increasingly at distance. Finally, the paper argues the urgent need for some reversals in the current teacher education policy for this scenario to change radically in Brazil.
